I am also very aware of what i am eating, cutting back seconds and eating healthy. I am in my 40s and wonder if others are experiencing the same problem. and any suggestions, or alternative suggestions like flax seed or something to help you feel full.  Connie

    Re: loosing weight

    Hi Connie,

I am in my 40's as well and recently had a problem loosing weight.  A couple of years ago I got mono, and that put me out of for 6 months, I gained about 10 pounds.  I tried for about a year to lose weight - nothing.  It literally took me a year of persistance, and then my body kicked in and I lost over 10 pounds.  I had been obese from childhood until about 30, so I knew all about counting calories, etc.  Nothing changed the scale for that time, but I FELT BETTER.  I want to encourage you, even if the pounds are not coming off like you want, or quickly, focus on being healthy and be persistant.  It took that for me.  Also, when I am struggling with feeling hungry all the time, I tried a low-fat, high protein bar, like Cliff or Protein Plus, that really helps curb my hunger.  Skye

I am strugling with the same issues.  I'm in my late 30's and it is just Sooo much harder than it was 5 years ago.  Iput on more weight than usual during the holidays and I'm really having a tough time getting it to budge.  In my case I think I'm not getting enough cardio.  I just need to tell myself not to give up, because there are definately days I think, oh well I'll be fat & happy!

    Thanks for the tips Skye!

    Re: loosing weight

I am in my mid-20's, but I also struggle with losing weight.. My problem is that I am finishing my last semester of my accounting degree, plus working, and maintaining a household!!! The more stressed out I am, the more i gain no matter how much I work out, watch what I eat etc... I think stress is my enemy for weight control right now!!!

I've never heard of that.  I'm always a little wary about trying supplements.  Have you tried it yourself??

    Re: Losing weight

    Hi everyone,

So you're looking for the key to weight loss. Join the rest of America! Years of experience taught me that there are no weight loss secrets or tricks. If you want to see permanent changes in your body composition, you have to be willing to make permanent changes in your eating habits and lifestyle. Good for all of you who are on that track.

Remember that it is not only how much you eat, but WHAT you eat. Stay away from processed foods, focus on a well -balanced diet full of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Eat 4 -6 small meals a day to keep that metabolism working. Hydrate, sleep, and attempt to manage stress.

I know these may not be the answers you want o hear, the fact of the matter is that they are tried and true. As we age, a variety of hormonal changes may make it more difficult to lose weight --- BUILD MUSCLE MASS. Women are often too cardio oriented.. lean muscle mass burns more calories that fat! Balance your fitness routines with weight bearing and resistance exercise. Have you read my blurb on CROSS TRAINING???

Stay motivated, committed and keep your eyes on your goals! Good Luck!

    Smile [:)] Re: Losing weight

I agree about the building muscle mass business... I find it difficult to lose much weight unless I have a good balance of cardio AND strength training. I need much more muscle training than I ever thought!!! Also, yoga is a great way to attempt to alleviate some of that stress, plus much of the time there is an added toning effect as well. Good luck! We are with you!
