    PUSHUPS

Saw this article on the NY Times blog and though people might be interested in taking a look:

     http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/11/the-art-of-the-push-up/

How many can you do?  What does that say about your fitness level?  I still do the majority of pushups on my knees (as opposed to fully extended).  That is my new goal.

    Re: PUSHUPS

That is an interesting artical.  According to the calculator that they had I am average for my age, but I did do them with my knees bent.  I probably couldn't get through half as many fully extended.

I hear so much lately about doing more strength training as I get older. I know I should, but I have this fear that I will be bulky if I do that.  I think a lot of women have the same worry.  Any advice on building muscle without bulking up too much??

Even when I am at my fittest and strongest, I have never been able to do push up fully extended. I have injured my wrist about 4 or 5 years ago, it hurts, but I push through it!  =/

    Re: PUSHUPS

Well I could never do push ups! Sad

My upper body strength was and still is pretty pathetic. Even the ones on the knee's are too much for me. I always just avoid doing them at all cost but after reading that article I think I better try.

Its strange because even as a relatively healthy and strong child I couldn't do push ups or handstands or cartwheels. Confused

I think the calculator assumes that if you are female, you are doing the bent knee type.  So if you put in the number of straight leg pushups you can do, you'll get a low score.
